Driving to Make a Difference

The ‘Driving to make a Difference’ project is initiated by the Bunbury Multicultural Group and delivered through the generous support of the Office Multicultural Interests.

The program’s core objective is to provide migrant women free driving lessons with a professional driving instructor. The target is women from the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds who have recently immigrated to Bunbury Geographe. Through this program women can gain independence and the ability to engage with the broader community, whether it is to take their children to school or activities, to socialize or to commute independently to work.

“I would highly recommend the Driving to Make a Difference Program to all my friends who are starting to drive in Australia's road because it is really different to have a professional driving instructor who will teach you how to drive. I will be forever grateful to this program and to the people behind it.” (Rachel)

GDo you have any question?

Migrant women, especially in regional and rural communities, can easily become marginalised and isolated from engaging with the wider community due to a lack of good public transport and being unable to drive themselves. This isolation makes it difficult for them to access services that can benefit them. We believe that this project develops the status of women, builds capacity and helps them become more confident and able to access community events and networks and integrate into community easier.
